Triggers can show up when you least expect them. we can be just a moment away from one at any given time —a smell, a sound, a question.
They can pull you back into past moments you'd rather leave behind and hijack your preferred present moment experience.
But here's the truth: you're not alone in this.
Triggers don't mean you're broken; or that theirs anything fundamentally flawed or wrong with you its just your brain’s natural way of processing what happened.
But unfortunately, it can be a bit of a hindrance
It's a psychological injury to the brain 🧠 that can be worded on with trauma therapies.
✨ When triggers arise, try:
Grounding yourself with 3 long deep breaths or focusing on something in your present environment.
Maybe some Self Havening Techniques®️ as a somatic grounding tool in an activated moment of distress to help you gain instant access back into your window of tolerance 😉.
Saying no to conversations or situations that feel overwhelming or potentially triggering.
Reaching out to someone who understands, your partner, family member, close friend midwife, or GP.
Seek a trauma-informed therapist or a supportive community that can offer you the support and tools you need.
Prioritizeing your own recovery & healing is very important and impactful on your own transition into motherhood.
